A businesswoman was waiting at the same airport gate as me at the airport in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She had all the trappings of being a busy, successful person-dressed in a power suit, talking on a cell phone early in the morning prior to the flight. She was the last passenger to board the plane so that she could continue to make phone calls until the last possible minute. And then—surprise—her seat was next to mine.
By the time breakfast was served, I knew without a doubt I was going to talk with her about her relationship with the Lord. I asked about the business book she was reading, and she told me it was about "personal energy, our most precious resource." She then explained that "when we engage the psychological, the physical, and the spiritual, we can have far more energy."
I asked how the author suggests that one engage the spiritual. She shared a couple of points and mentioned God in both of them. I asked about her church background, and that's when she really opened up with great feeling.
"You know, I am searching!" she said. "I am really searching!"
She was totally dissatisfied and disillusioned. She had been going to a church where her father-in-law was the minister. After more than 20 years of marriage, this clergyman father-in-law left his wife . . . for another man!
"I have been pondering how to go to a ‘really Christian' church," she said. "You know, I actually get more out of radio preachers than I ever did at my church," she added.
Then she dropped a bombshell question: "Do you know what the ‘born-again' concept is all about?"
If I had been writing an idealistic book on how to share your faith, I don't think I could have dreamed up such a textbook example of an honest seeker. I took her to John 3 and began to guide her through the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus. She was amazed to discover that the "born-again concept" is in the Bible itself.
"It's right there!" she exclaimed. "It's right there!"
By this time I was not moving fast enough for her taste toward "how to get started" in the Christian faith. As soon as I explained the Gospel, she was ready. I asked if she would like to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. "Very much!" she replied.
Since that day, with great joy, I have sent her a couple of books, and connected her to a couple of "really Christian" churches in her area.
The Soul Harvest is the greatest event we can possibly experience while we journey on this planet.
And just think-God is repeating this event with over 15,000 other seeking individuals every single month in Cuba alone!
In fact, our incredible success in Cuba has encouraged us to take the same approach to another area of the world once closed to the Gospel, East Asia. Some say China is the biggest "Cuba" on the planet. We're working toward gathering, training, and deploying 200,000 Chinese Gospel workers! Next week I'll meet with workers in Japan and the Far East to develop a road map for this strategy.
We are trusting that what happened to that businesswoman on the plane will happen millions of times over in The Far East.
