Top Ten Ministry Moments of 2010: #1

March 2010

This has to be the greatest of all weeks that I have ever spent in Cuba—and you were there, in spirit!

One thousand, one hundred and fifty souls were saved by the preaching of the Gospel in one week of preaching and evangelistic efforts by our teams!  Just look at the amazing reports from Guantanamo and Santiago:

  • People evangelized: 12,157
  • People interested and enrolled in follow-up: 3,205
  • People converted: 928
  • Response to evangelistic meetings:

July 2010

Let me introduce you to Adelfo a wonderful believer who came to Christ more than 30 years ago.  The seed of the Gospel fell on fertile ground in Adelfo’s heart.  He was immediately discipled and became a vibrant witness for the Gospel.  His dairy business began to thrive, and his life began to take on the aura of a life blessed by the Lord.

Adelfo’s role at church also grew.  He wanted to share with everyone about the joy of an authentic Christian life.

But growth in Christ Jesus can only go undetected for so long.  Two teachers of catechism from the Catholic Church became aware of the “evangelist” in their midst.

The biggest evangelistic impact: Cuba!  We’ve had groups from Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma—and we have groups coming from California and Oregon.

I’ve logged 10,500 kilometers (6,300 miles) in three weeks; our teams have led 1,500 people to Christ—and we ask people in big crowds only to raise their hands if this is the first time they are praying to receive Christ!

Vietnam is on the rise!

I just returned from a powerful week in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), where I met with top leaders of the Vietnamese Evangelical Fellowship (VEF).  Right after our meetings, they wrote me—and their letter makes it clear that they get it—they correctly sense what the impact of our meeting means for the work.  They are more excited than ever!

Pastor Vin, the group’s executive vice president, writes:

June 2010

It’s beautiful in the little town of Rivne . . . like a storybook picture . . . on the edge of a thick Ukrainian forest.

In wintertime, this thickly wooded area is a wonderland.  Heavy snows drape a thick blanket of white on plants and trees.  In the spring, the forest comes alive.  Leaves once again coat the trees, and melting snow flood the streams, which murmur as they cut through the green floors.

May 2010
Let me take you to the town of Huejotzingo, one of the towns surrounding the city of Puebla.

Here, a believer who used to rent a two-story house to generate extra income has given the free use of the entire lower floor on a permanent basis for the church that our friends Jose and Arely are planting.

May 2010
Let me take you to Tiscali . . .

It’s one of tens of thousands of towns in the Mexico countryside . . . so normal and sleepy that it seems nothing can change its ways. But one of our workers assigned to that town has set the wheels of eternal change in motion! The power of the Gospel is the compelling force.

April 2010
The Lord has been speaking to my heart today through one of our students from Morocco. Let me introduce you to him.

Abdel Saleeb won the Preacher of the Year award at our seminary. But he came to God, and to us, from a dark background of rebellion and crime. He often landed in police stations for his actions. He had a bad name in his home area.

March 2010

In the western part of the Cuba, two of the most successful pastors among our workers were brought to police headquarters and subjected to threats of a swift end to their activities.

Alberto (not his real name), full of the Spirit, was serene and profoundly focused.
